GHAZNI (PAN): Many people in southern Ghazni province claim their MPs have not kept their promises in either term in Parliament.
Naser Ahmad Bayan, a member of a provincial youth association, said that many parlimentarians from the province do not visit their areas, and that some MPs have not visited the province at all for the past five years.
Ghazni has 11 seats in the Parliament, three held by women and the rest by men.
Another resident of the province, Ahmad Mukhtar Ekhtiar, said that the MPs are working for their own benefit and not serving the people.
He said some residents of Ghazni had visited their MPs in Kabul, but that the MPs would not assist them and wouldn’t even answer their phone calls.
Hosai Andar, a member of the Wolesi Jirga, Parliament’s lower house, said that Parliament’s MPs serve President Karzai rather than Ghazni province.
Ander said that Parliament is a protected place for the MPs and that they are afraid to visit the provinces.
However, some members of Parliament reject these criticisms and say that they have had no time to visit their home provinces because of other requirements. Chaman Shah Etemadi, a Ghazni MP, said that during Parliament’s second term, all of the MPs’ time has been taken up by controversy.
Provincial elections in Ghazni last year faced many problems. Polling stations in about 14 districts were closed because of the security situation.
