GHAZNI CITY (PAN plan there till 2013.
Archeologists Ahmad and Madhat are currently in Afghanistan in response to an invitation from the government of President Hamid Karzai to work out plans for reconstructing the historical sites.
They wanted to closely watch the ancient places in Ghazni and start work on their reconstruction in the near future, Ahmad, one of the archeologists told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Concerned over the condition of Bala Hisar Fort and the Old City, he said both sites needed immediate reconstruction and the government’s attention. They were in contact with Afghan officials on how and when to start work, he said.
Director of Information and Culture Hameedullah Sarwari welcomed the visiting archeologists and hoped the reconstruction work would begin soon.
At a conference in Tripoli in 2007, Ghazni was chosen by the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ISESCO) to serve as Asian capital of the Islamic civilisation.
