JALALABAD (PAN (RTA) has been rescued from his kidnappers in eastern Nangarhar province after spending 27 days in captivity, a senior official confirmed on Wednesday.
Unknown gunmen had kidnapped the RTA Nangarhar station cameraman, Shafique Khiwawal, from the Behsud Pul area 27 days ago.
Deputy governor Mohammad Hanif Gardiwal said the release had been a result of efforts by security forces. He said efforts were being made to arrest the kidnappers.
However, the motive behind Khiwawal’s kidnapping could not be ascertained.
Without elaborating, Gardiwal said police had launched a programme to prevent kidnapping incidents and arrest those involved.
The RTA Nangarhar station deputy director Engineer Zalmai thanked security officials for their efforts to rescue the cameraman.
“I am so pleased that our kidnapped cameraman has been rescued and he is back to work,” he said.
Security forces, however, remain clueless about whereabouts of the kidnapped father of Nabi Esakheil, the Afghanistan cricket team captain. Security officials say they are searching.
