The prime minister expressed these views in his meeting with James F. Dobbin, US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan who called on Sharif on Friday.
Both the dignitaries talked in detail on post-Afghanistan election scenario, regional security, situation on the porous Pak-Afghan border and matters pertaining to the planned NATO forces withdrawal from Afghanistan.
“We will maintain cordial ties and cooperate with anyone who wins as president in the wake of Afghanistan’s election,” Sharif added.
The prime minister said Pakistan wanted a democratic and stable Afghanistan, which was in the interest of Pakistan.
Earlier, the US envoy held meetings with adviser to prime minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement said that situations in Afghanistan were discussed at length during the meeting. Aziz said Islamabad would maintain close ties with Afghanistan after transfer of power.
