BAMYAN (Pajhwok): Dozens of male and female ski athletes have started preparing themseves ahead of the annnual ski festival in central Bamyan province, officials said Thursday.
Over the last five years, the festival has been held in the snowy slopes of Baba mountains where Afghan players have been trained and even taken part in competitions abroad.
Ali Reza Ibrahim, director tourism board, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the sport in the province would attract domestic and international tourists in the winter season.
Bamyan is cold due to heavy snowfall in winter and the terrain makes skiing more interesting.
Ibrahim said 15 male and 14 female athletes have been trained in the province and have become professional players.
The athletes, he said, have started preparing for the competitions that are due in a month. Foreign tourists are also expected to take part in the games.
