JALALABAD (Pajhwok): At least 20 militants have been killed in airstrikes and ground operations in eastern Nangarhar province, officials claimed on Saturday.

Fourteen Islamic State (Daesh) fighters were eliminated in Mamandara and Moragi areas of Achin district during overnight airstrikes by foreign troops, the governor’s spokesman said.

Attaullah Khogyani told Pajhwok Afghan News all the dead were foreign militants. Some dead bodies were still lying at the scene, he said, adding civilians were not harmed.

Elsewhere in the province, one Daesh member was killed and four others were wounded in an ongoing operation by Afghan forces in Pachiragam district.

Shireen Aqa, spokesman for 201st Selab Military Corps, said a number of areas had been cleared of Daesh militants as a result of the offensive.

According to Khogyani, two civilians were wounded in the Naukarkhel area of Pachiragam, where a pick-up struck a roadside bomb in the morning. He blamed the militants for planting the landmine.

But the rebels have not yet commented on any of the incidents.

Meanwhile, area resident Israrullah told Pajhwok that six civilians were wounded in the explosion. One of the inured was in critical condition, he said.
