KABUL (Pajhwok): Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mohammad Mohaqqiq on Thursday said Daesh or Islamic State (IS)’s main objective was to disunite people and take them war against each other.

Addressing a press conference in Kabul, Mohaqqiq said Daesh was investing in a number of mosques, schools and universities in Afghanistan to fuel the conflict.

He said the Syria and Iraq-based was campaigning to spread its dangerous views through seminaries, schools and universities of Afghanistan and was trying to disunite people.

“Daesh is not a group of illiterates, they know people’s mentality and war tactics, but we the Afghans are weak in culture and mental resistance against them,” he said.

He said the Afghan government was fighting against terrorism but Afghan people were morally and culturally unequipped against rebels groups.

Mohaqqiq agreed with a lawmaker, Hafiz Mansoor, who had said Islamic culture should be protected from extremism.

Mansoor had said some university lecturers defended terrorist organizations through their social media accounts.

Hafiz Mansoor recently told a Wolesi Jirga taught in universities provoked students to get terrorist training.

Islamic culture is a subject in universities’ curriculum being taught to students for four years.

Mohaqqiq said Afghans should improve their education and understanding and stand united against extremism.

“There is a clear difference among Taliban intelligence agencies are sent to us to destroy Muslims and create divisions among them,” he said.

Daesh recently increased attacks on Shiites in Afghanistan and carried out four attacks in the past few months, killing 160 Shiites and 20 Sunnis as well as wounding another 600 people, the deputy CEO added.

Mohaqqiq said the main goal of Daesh was to create divisions among people, urging Afghans to maintain religious harmony and join hands in eliminating enemies.
