Stop meddling in Afghanistan, Pakistan govt asked

KABUL by the global community and neighbours, the Pakhtun nationalist Awami National Party (ANP said on Thursday.

In a statement issued by the party, ANP Spokesman Zahid Khan lambasted some Pakistani leaders for pitting Muslims against one another under the pretext of jihad and to please the US.

“Dictators dragged Pakistan into the so-called war against terrorism and international conflict due to which millions of people in Pakistan and Afghanistan have been killed, wounded, disabled and displaced,” Zahid lamented.

He said due to the decision of some former rulers, the economies of both Afghanistan and Pakistan had been destroyed and the future of thetwo peoples damaged.

Zahid added Pakistan in the past forged US policy in the region, exploiting the name of Islam and allowing the use of its soil to facilitate the jihad against the former Soviet Union.

According to international media reports, the ANP spokesman alleged, Pakistan had established direct contact with the Taliban. He suggested Islamabad should refrain from meddling in Afghanistan’s internal matters.

He urged the neighbouring countries to work at all levels for peace and stability in Afghanistan. He also called for coordinated efforts for peace by Kabul and Islamabad.
