KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): Teachers on Monday called off their strike in southeastern Khost province after boycotting classes for three days over the delay in distribution of land plots to them.

The teachers had been on strike in Khost City, the provincial capital, and three districts, depriving thousands of students of lessons for three days

They ended the strike after the government sought two months time for solving their problems, one of the teachers told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the government had promised distribution of land plots to teachers after completion of legal process. He said classes would resume tomorrow.

He said if the government did not honor its promise in the given time, the teachers would resume their strike.

Khost education director Bakht Noor Bakhtyar confirmed the teachers had ended their strike after talks with the department officials.

He said they had sought two months time from teachers to resolve their issues.

The teachers claim former president Hamid Karzai had ordered the Ministry of Education in 1386 to give land plots to deserving teachers
