400 IEC contractors in Parwan demand pending salaries

CHARIKAR)’s contract-based workers staged a protest rally in central Parwan province on Saturday against non-payment of their salaries.

The protestors said the IEC has not yet paid salaries of 400 contract-based workers who performed duty in districts.

They said most of the IEC employees had not received salaries for the last five months and some from the beginning of the process.

Abdul Waris, an IEC employee, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the non-payment of salaries had landed them in great economic trouble.

Abdul Abbas Torabi, polling station director at the Sufikhel Dara Kafshan high school in Shinwari district, said: “I worked for two months and did hardwork, but the IEC is yet to pay me.”

The protestors warned if the IEC did not pay their salaries within two next days, they would close the IEC regional office in Charikar, the provincial capital.

Meanwhile, Amanullah Habibi, the provincial IEC regional’s office director, also confirmed the IEC had not paid salaries of 400 employees in districts.

He said salaries of the contract employees would be paid by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the IEC regional office has been trying in this regard.

According to him, the UNDP has promised to release the pending salaries of employees in the next two days.
