KABUL (Pajhwok): The Attorney General Office (AGO) on Monday said it was concerned regarding three convicted lawmakers’ presence in the National Assembly and said it would take action against them when the parliament referred them to the office.

Senator Ahmad Yousuf Nuristani, Wolesi Jirga member Ahmad Zia Yaftali have been convicted by a court over misuse of authority while Mohammad Katawazai, a lawmaker from Paktika province, has been convicted in a fraud case.

AGO spokesman Jamshid Rasouli said they would take action against the three lawmakers when the Parliament referred them to the AGO.

Nusristani is sentenced to over one year jail term by the Criminal Justice Task Force and Serious Crimes Branch Court and the Senate has been asked to refer Nuristan for serving his sentence.

According to Rasouli, Yaftali has been sentenced to jail term which he could not challenge and the case was under further investigation with the AGO.

About Katawazai’s case, he said: “Decision regarding Katawazai would be taken soon after we have discussion with a delegation assigned for this case.”

Lawmaker Ramazan Bashardost said every lawmaker punished by the court should go through his punishment and a letter in this regard should be dispatched to the lower house.

“If we cannot implement the law on powerful individuals, we should not except others that they will respect the law,” he believed.
