KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Wednesday renamed the Kandahar airport as Ahmad Shah Abdali airport besides naming a square after ex-police chief Gen. Abdul Raziq.

Heading a high-level delegation, Ghani arrived in the southern province on Wednesday morning.

Ghani inaugurated the airport after renaming it as Ahmad Shah Abdali airport. “I want this airport to become a commercial hub,” the president said.”

According to Ghani, Kandahar products would be exported to Gulf, Europe and other countries through this airport.

The president also named a newly-constructed square and road to the airport after Abdul Raziq, who was killed in a terrorist attack last year.

Governor Hayatullah Hayat, police chief Gen. Tadin Khan and other provincial officials were present at the inauguration ceremony.

The road inaugurated today is 16.4 kilometers long and 69.2 meters wide. It was built at a cost of 2.8 billion afghanis from the government’s development budget.
