MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Juma Khan Hamdard-led Hezb-i-Islami negotiations.

Hamdard, a prominent HIA member who served as governor of different provinces in the past, announced this during a gathering here in which a number of political and former jihadi figures participated.

Hamdard said their council unconditionally supported the government and Taliban negotiations in the Qatari capital Doha.

He criticised the government for being failing to develop a political consensus on peace in the country.

“I wish the government had appointed a delegation that understood the Taliban language and vice versa. Anyways now we support this move for the sake of peace,” he said while criticising the government for not conducting consultations on appointment of the peace delegation.

He also urged political forces to join hands for future of the country. Hamdard asked the Taliban to learn from the past bitter experiences and ensure that the on-going talks were successful.

Former Wolesi Jirga Speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi asked both the negotiating teams to show flexibility in their stance.

He said the people were tired of the fighting underway from the past four decades and wanted peace and stability. He also urged reduction in violence and ceasefire in the country.

Asadullah Shahbaz, Wolesi Jirga secretary and representative of Baghlan people, said every citizen of the country was longing for peace.

He said some circles on the behest of their foreign masters were trying to sabotage peace and only the people of Afghanistan could thwart their designs.
