KABUL (Pajhwok): The United States and the Taliban have discussed the implementation of the peace pact they signed in Doha last year, says the insurgent movement.
America’s special envoy for Afghanistan reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad met senior Taliban leaders, including Mullah Baradar, in Qatar on Wednesday.
The release of the remaining Taliban prisoners, the removal of the names of rebel leaders from the UN blacklist and the pullout of all US and foreign forces from Afghanistan were discussed.
Taliban spokesman Mohammad Naeem tweeted: “The full implementation of all articles of the Doha deal was discussed, and both sides emphasized their commitment to the agreement.”
Last week, US President Joe Biden indicated it would be hard for his administration to meet troop withdrawal deadline of May 1.
A UN-led conference on Afghanistan’s future and the ongoing peace process is scheduled to be hosted by Turkey this month. The warring sides and major world powers are expected to attend the Istanbul Summit.
