KABUL (Pajhwok): US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation ZalmayKhalilzad discussed latest developments and upcoming Istanbul Summit with government leaders on Saturday.

In a statement, the Presidential Palace said Khalilzad called on President Ashraf Ghani today morning.

Both sides discussed preparations for the upcoming Istanbul conference besides discussing latest developments in the peace process.

On the other hand, High Council for National Reconciliation Chairman’s office said that Khalilzad also held meeting with Dr. Abdullah and discussed certain topics.

It was second time since last week that Khalilzad arrived in Kabul.

According to sources, last week Khalilzad met with President Ghani, Abdullah and Abdul RabRassoulSayyaf during a secret trip to Kabul.

Khalilzad asked the president to send a strong team to Turkey.

The UN-led conference featuring Afghan government leaders, politicians and Taliban representatives, is scheduled to take place in Istanbul this month.

Some sources say the meeting will take place on April 16, while others say it may take place on April 25, but no exact date has been set as yet.

President Ghani, Dr. Abdullah and a number of politicians have hammered out peace plans to be presented at the summit.

The High Peace Council has been working on unifying the proposals over the past few days. The process ended on Thursday.
