PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Ten policemen have been killed and three others wounded in different incidents of violence in central Logar province, officials say.
A security source, wishing anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News the insurgents on Wednesday night attacked a highway security post in the Altamor area of Pul-i-Alam.
He said six policemen were killed in the attack and their weapons destroyed.
The source said Taliban insurgents opened fire at a police vehicle in Pul-i-Alam city on Thursday morning.
Two policemen were killed in the incident, with the Taliban taking away the police vehicle.
Similarly, the source said Taliban on Wednesday night attacked a security post near Mis Ainak mine in Mohammad Agha district.
He said two policemen were killed and three others wounded in the incident.
Meanwhile, Matiullah, a resident of the Abchakan area of Pul-i-Alam, told Pajhwok the rebels on Wednesday night attacked a highway security post.
“The security post has been here for years, protecting the road. The fighters attacked the post last night and killed some policemen and also took away their weapons.”
Deedar Lawang, the governor’s spokesman, said clashes occurred in Pul-i-Alam and Mohammad Agha district on Wednesday night.
However, the official added specific casualty figures were not yet known. The Taliban have not commented on the engagement.
Lately, clashes have intensified between the government and Taliban and each side claims imposing casualties on the other.
