MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Hundreds of people continued their protest against the appointment of a new governor in northern Faryab province on eighth day on Saturday.
Dressed in white clothes, the protesting people gathered outside the headquarters of the first brigade of 209 Shaheen military corps where the governor is currently based.
The protesters chanted “Bring Laghmani out of the battalion”, “Laghmani leave Faryab”, “We do not want you” and “death to dealers”. The leaders of the protest faced difficulties to curb protesters from engaging with security personnel when they reached 50 metre of the military corps’ check-point.
Supporters of Marshal AbdulRashid Dostum, members and supporters of Jamiat-i-Islami party, representative of Hizb-i-Wahdat and women participated in the protest.
The protesters said it was their eighth day protesting under the fire-emitting sun against the new governor, Dawood Laghmani, but the president and authorities did not listen to their demand.
They said they would continue with protests until Dawood Laghmani was replaced with an educated governor from Faryab province.
Deputy youth leader of Junbish party, Asadullah warned the battalion commander of 209 Military corps that if he did not remove the governor from his office then they would protest against the battalion commander.
Member of Junbish party, HakimTurk Oghli asked the government not to involve security forces in political matters.
He added the government should not go against the public for one individual and that the government should remove Dawood Laghmani from the battalion and move him to the capital Kabul.
Representative of Hizb-i-Wahdat-i-Islami said that their party stood with the Uzbek fraternity.
DawoodLaghmani was appointed as the governor of Faryab province on April 20, 2021. Marshal AbdulRashid dostum reacted on his appointment and told his supporters to stand against injustice because he was not consulted on the appointment of the governor.
Dawood Laghmani was introduced as the new governor and he began serving from the headquarters of the first battalion of 209 Military Corps on May 17, 2021.
