KABUL (Pajhwok): Insurance companies, underlining the promotion of the industry in the country, said on Monday recent fires in Herat and Kabul had dealt a severe blow to businessmen.
The firms said in a joint statement that Afghanistan had witnessed two major blazes this year so far, causing huge damage to the businesses.
The first fire that erupted at the Islam Qala port in Herat province in February injured 17 people, in a similar incident in May, seven people died at the entrance to Kabul.
Based on government estimates, tens of millions of dollars were lost by Afghan businessmen in two fires, in addition to the casualties.
Insurance companies believe the parties affected by these blazes could have reduced their losses if they had insured themselves.
An official of the Sky International Company said: “Our customers can protect themselves from fire in exchange for a reasonable fee.”
