GARDiZ (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Interior (MoI) on Monday said it would create new facilities for the distribution of passports in the capital and provinces of the country.

MulaviAlamGulHaqqani, head of Passport Department, made the remarks while listening to the concerns of passport holders in southeastern Paktia province on Sunday.

“We have purchased a number of new technical equipment to expedite the process of issuing passports, which will facilitate both the department and the people,” he said.

He said that computers, biometric and other technical equipment some which were out of use, had been replaced with new ones for passport departments in all provinces.

Haqqani said the equipment was purchased from abroad, but did not provide information about the cost of the equipment.

He added that at the beginning of the passport distribution process in Kabul, around 4,000 passports were issued daily, but the process also started in other provinces and a total of 9,000 passports are being issued every day.

Efforts are being made to simplify the process so that more people can be facilitated and the process run without problems.

Passport holders in Paktia, on the other hand, are happy about the distribution of passports, but said that the number of applicants was high while the services were low.

RohullahZazi, a passport holder, said:”Today is the fifth day I have applied, but so far I am not registered in biometrics and I am waiting for next steps.”

He said that hundreds of people, including women and children, apply for passports on a daily basis, but they could not receive their passports in a few days.

Zazai said officials should pay attention and increase the number of passport employees so people would not wait for too long for their turns.

However, Paktia officials say that residents of Logar, Paktika and other provinces also traveled to Paktia to get their passports, but now the facility was provided in all these provinces.

Paktia is one of the provinces where most of its people do business in foreign countries which is the reason of high number of passport applicants there.
