KABUL (Pajhwok): Da Afghanistan Breshna Shirkat (DABS)on Wednesday said that electricity consumers owed 26 billion afghanis in unpaid electricity bills to the power utility, giving a one month ultimatum to defaulters to clear their arrears.
DABS says the defaulters would be dealt with based on the law if they did not clear their unpaid bills.
The power utility was expected to announce the list of defaulters today, but company spokesman,Hekmatullah Noorzai told a news conference that they had decided to give another month long ultimatum to the defaulters.
He said that the company's total subscribers, including some former government officials, ordinary people and some companies, owe 26 billion afghanis to the power utility.
"Those who owe money to DABS, those defaulters who are inside the country or abroad, should clear their bills with any methods available,” he added. He once again asked all debtors to pay their debts within one month.
Without elaborating, he said DABS would take action against those who do not deliver on-time electricity bills.
