KABUL (Pajhwok): Intelligence forces have seized a large quantity of different types of weapons and ammunition in northern Takhar province, the Ministry of Defense (MoD) said on Thursday.
In a statement, MoD said: “Based on operational reports, the Abu Obaidah Bin Jarrah Bridge of the 217 Corps seized a large number of various types of weapons and ammunition in Khormab village of Farkhar district”.
It said these ammunitions included six mortar shells, 52 hand grenade launchers, six boxes of Russian mortar shells, two boxes of 82mm Russian shells, five anti-personnel mines, 18 boxes of Russian Pika’s bullets, 21 mortar bullets, nine rocket shells, one rocket bullet, a pair of non-destructive daytime binoculars and two Russian Kalashnikovs.
According to MoD, a suspect has fled from the area, but intelligence forces have launched an investigation to arrest him.
Separately, about 65 different military vehicles were repaired in the past six months following efforts of professional personnel of the Technical Department for second Infantry Division, 215 Azam Corps, the statement added.
The vehicles included 30 Ranger vehicles, 17 Humvee tanks, 13 international vehicles, three Humvee ambulances, and two Crawler vehicles.
Previously, a large number of military vehicles had been repaired and made usable in the brigade’s workshops.
