JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Dozens of people with disabilities staged a protest demonstration in eastern Nangarhar province, asking the United States to unfreeze Afghanistan reserves.
US president Joe Biden signed an executive order earlier this month releasing $7bn in frozen Afghan reserves to be split between humanitarian efforts for the Afghan people and American victims of terrorism, including relatives of 9/11.
The protestors in Jalalabad, the provincial capital, chanted slogans against the US and termed the decision of Joe Biden as unfair and unjust.
Massoud Safi, an organizer and head of the disabled association, said their rally was against the decision of US president and asked the international community to help release the Afghan assets.
Qasim, one of the protestors, said no Afghan was involved in 9/11 attack and they US should not embezzle the Afghan assets under various pretexts.
Awal Mir, another protestor, said that the US invaded Afghanistan without any justification and occupied the country for 20 years, killing and wounding tens of thousands of Afghans so instead of compensating the Afghans they tried to take the Afghanistan reserves.
The protestors issued a regulation that asked the UN, the international community and neighboring countries to help in releasing the Afghan assets and recognize the caretaker government.
