KABUL (Pajhwok): Governor of western Herat province, Sheikh Maulana Islamjar, has called for an increase in cargo transportation via the Khaf-Herat railway line.

He made the call during a meeting on Tuesday with Mostafa Rezaei, director of Iran’s Railway Development Consortium in Afghanistan, according to a statement from the governor’s office.

Islamjar said the Khaf-Herat railway is a key transit and trade route linking Afghanistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran, adding that the Rabat Paryan station would also become operational soon.

He urged the consortium to further expand the volume of commercial goods transported through the railway and said the local administration was ready to provide full support for strengthening the route.

In response, Rezaei thanked the Herat authorities for their cooperation and pledged to raise the railway’s transport capacity to 150,000 tonnes per month in the coming months.

He expressed confidence that the railway would help accelerate the transport and export of Afghan products and commercial goods to international markets.
