KUNDUZ (Pajhwok): Residents of this capital city of northern Kunduz province say they are concerned about swelling garbage heaps in the city and complain about the stink.
They urge the municipality to remove the waste and prevent diseases from spreading.
However, officials of the municipality think the city is clean to some extent, but they say people are not cooperating with them in keeping the city clean.
Ahmad Shah Rustaqi, a resident, told Pajhwok Afghan News : “Huge piles of garbage can be seen in the city these days”. He asked the municipality to address the issue.
Mawlavi Gul Mohammad Elyas, the mayor of Kuduz city, stressed cleanliness of the city, but he added the lack of people’s cooperation and shortage of garbage trucks were main reasons behind the issue.
Dr. NajubullahSahil, director of public health, told Pajhwok that the cases of garbage related infectious diseases increased in summer and advised the people to pay attention to their hygiene to prevent diseases spread.
Even though, some factories recycle the waste like iron, aluminum and glass, other recyclable waste is left useless.
