KABUL (Pajhwok): An official of the Covid-19 Hospital in northern Jawzjan province says they are ready to battle the virus as positive cases increase.
Dr. Khalid, in-charge of surveillance at the Covid-19 hospital in Jawzjan, told Pajhwok that at least 30 residents of the province from different areas visited the hospital for coronavirus tests in a single day.
He added the number of positive cases reached 250 during the past 10 days, but no death was registered during the period. He called the rise in the number of positive cases as worrisome.
“Covid-19 cases are once again on the rise in Jawzjan but all facilities are available to fight the disease, currently we have five patients at the hospital,” he added.
According to him, a number of patients are quarantined in their homes based on their request and they also take necessary medicines from the hospital free of cost.
He said ignoring health guidelines such as using masks, washing hands with soap and maintaining social distance was behind the increase in positive cases and there were people who never took the disease seriously.
Mohammad Khan, whose father has contracted the virus, said: “It has been six days since my father is hospitalized due to the virus.”
He said: “Actually, I and my family did not believe the coronavirus is a deadly disease and we thought people are spreading rumors, but now we realize it is a dangerous disease.”
“My father was in critical condition, we thought he had severe pneumonia, but after going to the hospital, he was diagnosed with Covid-19 and currently his condition is improving,” he added.
Ishan Qul, another man whose daughter is suffering from Covid, said: “Initially, we did not take my daughter’s illness seriously and we used some home remedies and herbals, but when she developed shortness of breath, we brought her to the hospital. Unfortunately, my sons have also contracted the virus and currently they are quarantined at home.”
He added people were indifferent to the virus as they rarely wore masks and observed social distance in the city.
