KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation (MoTCA) on Monday announced more than 3,200 flights were carried out and more than 369,000 passengers transferred from the country’s airports last year.
Mullah Hamidullah Akhundzada, acting minister of transport and civil aviation, shared last one year’s report with journalists in Kabul, saying a total of 3,243 domestic and international flights were carried out and 369,631 passengers transferred inside and outside the country.
According to him, the reactivation of Kabul and Mazar airports and the Airbus-310 C-check for the first time in the country at a lowest cost are among other achievements of the ministry.
He also called the agreement with GAAC Company and activation of meteorological stations in four provinces and scrutinizing 2,744 passenger complaints as the achievements of the ministry during last year.
Ghulam JilaniWafa, operation heads at MoTCA, said after the withdrawal of foreign forces from the country, about 70 percent of the equipment of the Kabul airport was destroyed and the Islamic Emirate was able with the help of Qatar and UAE to quickly restore the equipment.
He added that in order to provide standard services at the country's international airports, two contracts were signed with GAAC and as a result of which nearly $6 million in revenue was obtained and about 900 jobs created.
Jilani said 2,744 passenger complaints had been received in the past year, including 2,600 complaints related to PIA (Pakistan International Airlines).
The rest of the complaints were related to Kam Air and Mahan companies.
During this period, 154 people were trained in air traffic control and aviation technology at private aviation institutes, including 26 people who had graduated and 128 individuals recruited after passing the entrance exam.
Hafiz Sediqullah Abid, deputy minister of transport and aviation. said the new leadership of the ministry continued to work on agreements with countries and international organizations to provide better services and increase coordination with neighboring countries.
According to him, the ministry received a total of 1,911,223,345 afghanis revenue from the air sector and 2,609,704,552 afghanis from the ground sector.
According to the information of the source, airlines owe more than 2.1 billion afghanis to the ministry.
