TALOQAN (Pajhwok): The number of tourists visiting Farkhar district of northern Takhar province has increased due to improved security, officials say.
Mohammad Ismail Farooqi, Farkhar district chief, said the Islamic Emirate forces had ensured security in the district and as a result the number of domestic tourists had surged this year compared to previous years.
He added every day hundreds of people from neighboring provinces arrived in the district for tourism, which had a positive effect on the economic situation of local people.
“So far we have not witnessed any face-to-face conflict from any group. At the beginning of the Islamic Emirate, a number of illegal armed men were present in this district, but they have fled the country.”
He assured to solve problems of poor families and had talked with some NGOs to provide them with winter supplies and food.
At the same time, Maulvi Abdulwali Arshad, the head of anti-serious crimes in the district, said security of the district was ensured and no person or group would be allowed to disrupt the security.
Qudratullah, a tribal elder in the district, said after recent developments, security in the district had improved, but economic situation of the people was affected due to suspension of development projects and inactivity of institutions.
He urged government officials to work towards creating jobs for the people.
