Some Takhar historic sites, monuments face eradication  

KABUL (Pajhwok): Some historic sites and monuments in the Kokcha region of northern Takhar province facing the threat of eradication, an official said on Wednesday.

Officials of the Information and Cultural Affairs Department paid a visit to the area and stressed security personnel to ensure the protection of historic sites.

Director Information and Culture Department Ansarullah Ansari visited the Ai Khanum historic site in Dasht Qala district, Arab Tapa in Khawaja Ghar district, and Hazrat Bostan and "Qara Tapa" in Darqad district and said the Bostan historic site had more than 200 years of history which is facing the threat of eradication.

Ansari asked the leadership of the Ministry of Information and Culture to take action to build a strong wall in the area for the protection of this historic site.

According to him, the area of Arab Tapa has also been usurped some individuals claiming its ownership and buildings have been built there in recent years.

Ansari added several historical relics of Ai Khanum - which are kept in Khawaja Bahauddin district - would soon be sent to the Department of Information and Culture.
