ACB suspends 3 Afghan players from domestic cricket for 4 months

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has suspended three players — Samiullah Shinwari, Mohammad Shahzad, and Aftab Alam — from domestic cricket for at least four months after they participated in the India Legends League without obtaining prior approval from the board.

The Legends League Cricket is a tournament featuring former and retired players who have previously represented their national teams in international cricket.

In a statement, the ACB said that under International Cricket Council (ICC) regulations, no player may participate in a foreign league without permission from their respective national cricket board.

The board stated: “The India Legends League is neither registered with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) nor with the ICC, despite such registration being mandatory. The ICC has informed our Anti-Corruption Unit that the league is not officially recognised or registered; therefore, players should not be granted permission to participate.”

According to the ACB, the three Afghan players took part in the tournament without obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC), resulting in their suspension from domestic cricket for a minimum of four months, in accordance with ICC regulations.

The Legends League tournament was held in India in March 2026.
