QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): A number of residents of western Badghis province who are in need of electronic identity cards have called for resumption of e-ID cards’ distribution.
However, officials say that a technical problem has surfaced and the process of distributing e-ID cards will be resumed once the issue is addressed.
Mohammad Ishaq, a resident of Aab Kamari district, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “Since long time I’m approaching to this office in order to receive e-ID card but the gate is close.”
According to him, in order to receive aid, he needs a e-ID card, but there is no employee and the center is closed.
Mohammad Nabi, another resident of the province, also complained about the closure of the national statistic and information authority.
He grumbled that he daily approached to this office to receive e-ID cards for his children but it was closed for the past several days.
He added that every time he visited this office, he was told that it had been closed by the Islamic Emirate and there was no information when it would be opened.
He urged the caretaker government to reopen the office as soon as possible because people needed the e-ID cards.
Maulvi Matiullah Muttaqi, director of information and culture, said the e-ID cards office was closed due to technical problems.
Muttaqi added: “The distribution of paper and e-ID cards are stopped due to technical problems and whenever the issue solved, the distribution would be resumed.”
According to him, efforts are underway to fix the technical problems and restarted the process of distributing the e-ID cards.
