Jazeera-i-Torpi residents: Have no access to health services

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Residents of the Jazeera-i-Torpi area of Imam Sahib district in northern Kunduz province complain about lack of healthcare services.

Jazeera-i-Torpi, located 25 kilometres norther of Imam Sahib district, is home to around 12,000 families.

Rahmat Gul, one of the residents of the area, who lost two relatives due to the absence of healthcare services, told Pajhwok Afghan News the government must address the problem on priority.

He said: “A shortage of physicians has created serious problems for expectant mothers. A cousin of mine, suffering from appendicitis, died on the way to a health centre. Earlier, my nephew had also died of the same condition.”

In recent years, he recalled, about 25 people had lost their lives due to the absence of health facilities in the remote area.

Wahidullah, another inhabitant of the locality, also asked the authorities to resolve the problem and provide them with healthcare services.

But Najibullah Sahil, director of public health, said mobile teams were active in different parts of the locality and efforts were underway to set up clinics there.

He added: “The Ministry of Public Health is striving to establish a health centre in order to solve the people’s problems.”
