Falol residents in Baghlan’s Burka district lost access to drinking water

PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Land sliding caused by recent flash floods have blocked natural streams of drinking water in the Falol village of northern Baghlan province’s Burka district due to which local residents have lost access to drinking water.

Burka District Council Chief Haji Abdul Wal told Pajhwok Afghan News that thousands families of Flol Gharanez area were facing acute drinking water shortage.

“Local residents brought drinking water from natural streams but after land sliding caused by recent flash flood blocked the natural water resources and the residents were currently facing water shortage,” he said.

He said around 5,000 families lived in the area and they desperately needed drinking water.

District Chief Abdul Hanan Huzaifa also acknowledged the issue and added from the past 15 days the residents of Falol area were facing drinking water issue.

He said if the drinking water issue of these families not resolved they may be forced to migrate.

Abdul Waheed Obaida, head of the Rural Rehabilitation and Development, said with the support of some NGOs, the survey of flood affected people in Falol area had been conducted and work on rehabilitation of natural streams had been launched.

He said such emergency issue could not be addressed due to the lack of fund.
