KABUL (Pajhwok): The Biden administration has ended America’s longest war in Afghanistan, says US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
“The decision to withdraw from Afghanistan was an incredibly difficult one, but also the right one.” The top US diplomat remarked.
At a media briefing in Washington on the second anniversary of the Islamic Emirate's takeover, he said the Americans would not be going to fight and die in Afghanistan
“For the first time in 20 years, we don’t have another generation of young Americans going to fight and die in Afghanistan.” Blinken was quoted as saying by Pakistani newspaper Dawn
Nearly 34,000 Special Immigrant Visas had been issued to Afghan applicants and their family members over the past two years, he told a questioner.
“We remain the leading donor of humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people, some $1.9 billion, since August of 2021,” the secretary of state said.
Blinken added the Biden government continued to work to hold the Taliban accountable for the commitments, particularly to the rights of women and girls.
