KABUL (Pajhwok): UN Special Coordinator Feridun Hadi Sinirlioglu says the world body is trying to remove misunderstanding between the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) and the international community and work with Kabul on technical and development assistance.

In a statement, the Presidential Palace said Deputy Prime Minister for Administrative Affairs Maulvi Abdul Salam Hanafi met Sinirlioglu here on Monday.

Sinirlioglu was quoted as saying: "There have been positive developments in Afghanistan, especially in the area of security and stability. We are trying to remove misunderstanding between the IEA and the international community."

He said: "We want to have good relations with the interim government and hope that Afghanistan will be at peace with its neighbours and the world and be an active member of the international community."

He suggested efforts for extending technical and development assistance to Afghanistan to meet the needs of its people.

Hanafi said IEA wanted positive interaction with the world in an atmosphere of mutual respect and interaction.

Such meetings between IEA and UN officials were useful in eliminating misunderstanding and resolving issues through dialogue.

Hanafi highlighted the interim government’s achievements, including restoration of nationwide security, fight against drugs and rehabilitation of addicts.

Hanafi urged the removal of misunderstanding between the IEA and the global fraternity and supported the mission of Sinirlioglu.
