KABUL (Pajhwok): The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has donated 16 ambulances worth 20 million afghanis and Saudi Arabia has delivered food items worth 350,000 US dollars to the Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS).
ARCS head Maulvi Matiul Haq Khalis told a press conference they received the ambulances in Kabul today.
“ICRC has donated 16 ambulances to us.. and has promised to donate 22 more,” he added
ICRC deputy director of operations in Afghanistan on the occasion said they would continue to cooperate and partner with the Afghan Red Crescent Society. ”We will continue to help Afghans with the resources at hand.”
Maulvi Khalis said King Salman Charitable Foundation had also donated food items which would be distributed to 5,500 Afghan families who had returned to Afghanistan.
He said each family will receive 50 kilograms of flour, 5 kilograms of oil, 5 kilograms of beans, 5 kilograms of rice, 5 kilograms of sugar and 2 kilograms of dates.
Khalis said earlier the Saudi Foundation had provided assistance to 40,000 needy families through ARCS.
He called on the international community to continue helping Afghans as Afghanistan suffered decades long wars and many Afghan refugees had recently returned to the country.
