GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Stray dogs bit 41 people in the past one year in two districts and Gardez city, the capital of southeastern Paktia province, an official said on Tuesday.
Dr. Ziaul Haq Saber, an official of the Public Health Department, told Pajhwok Afghan News rabid dogs bit 41 people during the past one year in Zazi Aryub, Janikhel districts and the provincial capital.
He said: "We have only figures of victims referred to us, the figures may be higher."
He added they had sent two medical teams to areas to vaccinate individuals bitten by stray dogs.
On the other hand, people complained about the increasing number of stray and rabid dogs.
Ghazi, a resident of Syed Karam district, told Pajhwok Afghan New the population of stray dogs had significantly increased.
He said his son and daughter were bitten by a stray dog a few months ago.
He added: "Then I took them to the Gardez regional hospital, where both of them were vaccinated three times."
Similarly, Sakhi Jan, a resident of Chamkani district, told Pajhwok that nine people, including two of his family members, were bitten by stray dog.
He asked related institutions to take serious measures to eliminate stray dogs.
Recently, many stray dogs are seen in the streets of capital Kabul at night.
