Daikundi women tailors, embroiders seek support

NEILLI (Pajhwok): Some women tailors and embroiders in central Daikundi province have expressed concerns about their business and stagnation called on the government to provide them with suitable locations, equipment and exhibition facilities.

“There is no suitable market for our produced clothes and we cannot save any money from what we sell to our customers,” Najiba Sadaqat, one of the tailors from Neilli city complained.

She said: “It is my third month in this business and I cannot make the money I spend every month, we just eat what we earn and we cannot save any money because this field is very crowded and there are too many tailors.”

Zafran Amini is another tailor of that province, she has been in this business since the past eight months, she told Pajhwok Afghan News, the lack of a suitable spot, water, electricity and toilet facilities are other challenges that they grapple with.

Amini said: “Women tailors currently working have no a specific location for their work, the lack of water, electricity, toilet … are other challenges that they face with.”

Most of the tailor even cannot win the monthly rent of their shops, the amount of the money they make is very small, she said.

She asked the government to provide them with a special location and other necessary facilities for such businesswomen.

They all urged the government and other relevant organization to arrange exhibitions for their products and help them in exploring markets.

Local officials of the Industry and Commerce Department said that they will province such entrepreneurs the opportunities of professional training.

In comment with Pajhwok, Industry and Commerce head Ali Shahristani said that they need more equipment for the improvement of women business in Daikundi.

He said: “It has planned to financially support such businesswomen to enable them to continue their business. They identified 248 such women in that province and shared their information with Islamic Welfare Organization for a term of eight-day professional training and a package of money.”

The local industry and commerce department was in cooperation with such businesswomen and it provided them with business and investment permits, Shahristani added.
