ZARANJ/SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Blacktopping of a road has begun in northern Jawzjan province and another road has been put into service in northwestern Nimroz province, officials said on Monday.
Jawzjan’s Public Works Director Asadullah Masror said the 51km road was being blacktopped at a cost of one billion and 400 million afghanis by three contracted companies. This road connects Qush Tepa and Darzab districts to Shiberghan city.
He said more than 200 residents were working on the road project.
In the opening ceremony, Governor Qari Haidar Gul Shafaq said since Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s takeover, many development and public welfare projects had been implemented.
He asked residents to live together in unity and solidarity and take part in their country’s rebuilding.
The residents are happy with the reconstruction of the road.
Abdul Aziz, a resident of Darzad explained: “Earlier, the damaged road caused problems on the way from our district to the center”.
In Nimroz, mayor Maulvi Salahuddin Mumtaz told Pajhwok Afghan News the road to the square in Zaranj city was asphalted at a cost of more than 16 million afghanis from the budget of the city municipality and was put into service.
“We plan to asphalt all such roads”: he added.
Meanwhile, Eng. Mohammad Haqyar, representative of Farah Lemar Road Construction Company, said the road was 1.5kilometer long, seven centimeters thick and seven meters wide.
The road was asphalted in four months.
