KABUL (Pajhwok): The Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) authority has signed agreements worth $1.8 million with 20 institutions to provide temporary technical and vocational education to thousands of young people in five provinces of the country.
Mufti Fazl-ur-Rahman Fazil, deputy head for Finance and Administration at the TVET Authority, said this agreements singing ceremony held in Kabul: "It is a great honor to be part of a program that provides an educational opportunity and a career path for children of Afghanistan."
He said TVET was committed to training a skilled workforce for the country’s development.
He added, “Major projects are being started by 25 institutions in provinces of Kandahar, Helmand, Daikundi, Bamiyan, and Khost, with important objectives such as food security for families and communities, economic growth through skills and employment for youth, improving nutrition for vulnerable groups, and creating sustainable job opportunities for young people.
The total cost of these projects is $2.5 million, and today agreements worth over 1.8 million US dollars will be signed with twenty national institutions.”
Ruhullah Hotak, head of vocational programs at the TVET, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the TVET has five programs, one of which is for providing short-term education.
According to him, under these agreements, funded by UNDP, thousands of young people in the mentioned provinces will receive training in food processing, dairy, vegetables, and fruit over a five-month period.
He added that the TVET currently has 166 active short-term technical vocational centers across the country, providing training to 3,891 individuals.
He added that this year, 12,873 young people received vocational and technical training in various fields and were now contributing to their communities.
