KABUL (Pajhwok): The President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, says Tehran will not enter “imposed negotiations” with the United States under pressure, threats, and blockade.
The Iranian news agency ISNA reported on Sunday that President Pezeshkian held a telephone conversation with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Pezeshkian emphasized: “As long as hostile actions and operational pressures by the United States are not stopped, rebuilding trust and progress on the path of dialogue will face difficulties.”
He said that reaching a common understanding and creating the necessary groundwork for effective dialogue is a prerequisite for any progress in resolving ongoing issues.
Referring to recent US actions and the maritime blockade against Iran, he described them as a serious obstacle to any trust-building process and diplomatic progress.
Pezeshkian added: “At a time when messages regarding dialogue and negotiations are being conveyed, the intensification of the naval blockade and continued operational pressures are effectively undermining the environment needed for mutual trust.”
The Iranian president reiterated that his country did not start the war and has never sought to spread insecurity in the region.
Meanwhile, Shehbaz Sharif said in a post on his X account that his conversation with Masoud Pezeshkian was “constructive.”
