KABUL (Pajhwok): Minister of Communications and Information Technology has met with representatives of telecommunications companies to discuss the state of the telecom sector, improving service quality, strengthening infrastructure, and expanding network coverage to remote areas.
According to a post on X by the ministry’s spokesperson, Enayatullah Alokozai, Minister Mullah Abdul Ahad Fazli briefed participants on the importance of the telecommunications sector and the current state of telecom services in Afghanistan.
During the meeting, Fazli highlighted the challenges facing the sector and emphasized the need to improve the quality of telecommunications services, particularly in remote and underserved areas.
He said the ministry would continue its efforts to support the growth and development of the sector.
The minister noted that a large proportion of the country’s population now relies on telecommunications services and stressed the importance of taking further steps to expand access and provide better services to citizens.
According to a ministry statement, Fazli said: “Since the victory of the Islamic Emirate, telecommunications tariffs have been reduced twice. If market conditions and circumstances permit further reductions in the future, this measure will also be implemented.”
He added that after the Islamic Emirate assumed power, the telecommunications market was comprehensively assessed in line with public demand, leading to tariff reductions.
However, he said the ministry had prevented some companies from making unilateral changes without authorization.
Alokozai said representatives of the telecommunications companies expressed appreciation for the ministry’s cooperation in addressing challenges facing the sector and pledged to remain committed to providing better services to the public.
He added that the representatives also stressed the importance of strengthening telecommunications infrastructure to improve service quality and expand network coverage across different parts of the country.
