KABUL (Pajhwok): In its maiden meeting under President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai’s chairmanship on Thursday, the Cabinet approved naming Kabul International Airport after former president Hamid Karzai.

The Meshrano Jirga or upper house of parliament has proposed naming Kabul Airport after Hamid Karzai.

The Cabinet Secretariat in a statement issued here said the Cabinet met under President Ahmadzai’s chairmanship on Thursday.

At the meeting, Ahmadzai paid tribute to his predecessor Hamid Karzai for his services and contributions to the country’s rebuilding, calling him a patriot and wise politician.

The new president urged the acting ministers to continuously consult him about works related to them.

The Cabinet decided that the Kabul International Airport be named after Hamid Karzai in recognition of his services.

On the occasion, the acting Information and Culture Minister directed the authorities concerned to take required measures to name the airport after Karzai.

The meeting was informed that the former president had no home of his own in Kabul and the government had provided him a house for living on temporary basis.

The Cabinet decided that the house Karzai was living in would be temporarily allotted to the former president and legal issues of ownership would be processed later.
