TERINKOT (Pajhwok): Local officials on Sunday said a joint Afghan National Army (ANA) and police forces base in Terinkot, the capital of Uruzgan province has fallen to Taliban militants.

A local official, who wished to go unnamed, told Pajhwok Afghan News that a total of 25 ANA and police forces were stationed in the base that overran by Taliban after an attack in Nawa area of Terinkot city on Saturday night.

The number of security personnel killed or injured in the attack is not clear so far, the source said, adding the insurngets also seized weapons and vehicles of the Afghan forces from the base.

Uruzgan provincial council confirmed the incident but provided no further in formation.

 Provincial security officials refused to provide information about the incident with the media.

An official of the Ministry of Defense (MoD) also confirmed the fall of the security base in Nawa area of Terinkot. The source said that a number of security personnel were also killed or missed.

However, the official did not provide the exact figures.

Taliban in a statement to media also said that they captured a military base in Terinkot city, named Tabai Kotla, last night and killed 10 soldiers and took hostage 13 others.
