ASADABAD (Pajhwok): Governor of eastern Kunar province Abdul Sattar Mirzakwal escaped unhurt in an armed attack that wounded two of his bodyguards, an official said on Thursday.
Abdul Ghani Mosamim, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News Mirzakwal came under attack on the Kabul-Jalalabad highway in the Qarghayee district of Laghman on Wednesday evening.
He said two bodyguards of the governor were injured in the gun attack. The injured were in stable condition, the spokesman added.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, but the Afghan government often blames Taliban and Islamic State fighters for such acts of violence.
