KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghan and Indian religious scholars will meet to discuss the Afghan war and other related issues, a diplomat said on Thursday.
Ajmal Alamzai, cultural attaché at the Afghan embassy in New Delhi, told Pajhwok Afghan News it would be the first meeting between scholars from the two countries.
He added the conference is being held with Islamic Cultural center of India with efforts of Afghan embassy’s cultural attaché.
Alemzai said the conference would be attended by religious scholars from Dewband Madrasa, professors from Indian universities and a team of six scholars from Afghanistan.
The conference will be held on Wednesday, December 30, at the Indian Islamic and Cultural centre.
The Afghan embassy says Indian scholars would physically participate in the event, which would be attended virtually by the Afghan side.
Alamzai explained the objective behind the conference was to enhance bilateral relations between Afghan and Indian scholars and to provide youth with substantive information about the Islamic culture.
The conference will involve three panels, with two religious scholars from each side. The first panel will discuss religious relations between the two countries while the second will confer on ways of preventing bringing a bad name to Islam.
The third panel will discuss the position of Indian scholars on global ulema’s view that the Afghan war is unlawful.
At the end of the conference, a decision on the issue will be taken and signed by all participants.
