KANDAHAR (Pajhwok): Pakistan has temporarily reopened the Spin Boldak-Chaman crossing for returning Afghans, an official in southern Kandahar province said on Friday.
At least 20 civilians were killed and 80 others wounded when Pakistani forces opened fire in the Spin Boldak district of southern Kandahar province early Wednesday, officials said.
Local officials in southern Kandahar say that obstacles set up by Pakistan at the Spin Boldak–Chaman crossing have left thousands of commercial and other vehicles stranded, causing significant losses and difficulties for traders and travelers.
Five people have been killed and five others injured in an explosion at a vehicle terminal near the Durand Line in Chaman, Balochistan, local sources confirmed.
The Department of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock in Kandahar has estimated grape production in the southern province at 205,000 tonnes this year, with half expected to be converted into raisins.
More than 200 families have left their homes and moved to other areas in southern Kandahar province due to severe drought. The displaced families are now asking the government provide them with urgent assistance, an official said on Monday.
The Agriculture Department in southern Kandahar province says the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is constructing 15 cold storage facilities in two districts of the province at a cost of $200,000.
The municipality has closed seven fuel stations in the capital of southern Kandahar province for selling low-quality fuel and arbitrarily increasing prices, an official said on Monday.
