HERAT CITY (PAN): Three Afghan employees, including a woman worker of a Norwegian aid organisation, have been abducted in the Guzra district of western Herat province, an official said on Thursday.
The Norwegian Refugees Council (NRC) workers were kidnapped by unidentified gunmen on Wednesday afternoon, the district chief, Nisar Ahmad Popal, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
It remained unclear who had abducted them, but a search operation had been launched for the aid workers’ recovery, the official said.
An independent humanitarian and reconstruction since 2002, providing protection and assistance to refugees and internally-displaced people.
A security official, who did not want to be named, said the NRC employees had travelled to the district without having any security guard. He added there was no clue so far to the victims’ whereabouts.
Elsewhere in the province, a 10-year-old girl went missing in Ghoryan district but police remain clueless about her whereabouts, according to resident Ali Shah.
Kidnappings and targeted killings have lately increased in Herat, which borders Iran.
