QALAT (PAN): Five militants were killed and seven others, including policemen and civilians, wounded in two separate incidents of violence in southern Zabul province, officials said on Friday.
Three fighters were killed by a roadside bomb that they were planting in the Pasani area of Shah Joi district, Deputy Governor Mohammad Jan Rasulyar said.
Another two rebels were killed and as many others were captured alive in a joint operation by Afghan and foreign troops in the Mullahdin neighbourhood, he said. The two are being interrogated.
Meanwhile, two policemen and five civilians were injured in separate roadside bomb blast that ripped through a police vehicle in Qalat, the provincial capital, on Thursday evening, an official said on Friday.
Police chief, Col. Abdul Malik Wahidi, said the blast took place on the Kabul-Kandahar highway in Eid Gah locality of the city. Three policemen and five civilians, including four children, were injured, he said.
A search operation had been launched, but no arrest could be made so far, Wahidi said.
A doctor at the Qalat Civil Hospital, wishing anonymity, confirmed receiving eight injured people. Two children injured in the blast are serious, he said.
There was no claim of responsibility for the blast.
