KABUL): President Karzai on Wednesday strongly condemned Tuesday night’s insurgent attack on Kabul’s Intercontinental Hotel.
A group of suicide bombers targeted the hotel at around 10:30 pm. The attack left ten civilians and two policemen dead, as well as all nine of the attackers.
In addition, 13 civilians, five government officials, and two ISAF solders were injured.
President Karzai condemned the attack. He also said that the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) were fully prepared to respond to such attacks, and that similar incidents would not slow down the security transition process.
Hamid Karzai also expressed his sympathy and condolences for the families of those killed, and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack and contradicted official accounts, claiming to have killed or wounded over 50 Afghan and foreign soldiers in the overnight attack.
