ZARANJ (PAN): Residents of other provinces complained regarding the performance of provincial councils in their respective areas but people of south western Nimroz province are satisfied with performance of the council there.
Solving their common problems and tribal conflicts with coordination of local government administration, and evaluating and monitoring the activities of the administration were the major activities which satisfied locals.
Gul Ahmad Rakhshan, an influential tribal elder of the province said the council had done a lot work to solve problems of people.
A dispute between the Zori and Rakhshan tribes, which had already caused loss of two lives and two others injured, was settled very well by the council, he said.
Habibullah, a handcart seller in the provincial capital is satisfied with the performance of the council and said, “Once the officials of municipality took out carts on allegation of causing disturbance in the city, so we shared the issue with members of the council and they give our carts back and placed us in a suitable place.”
Najibullah Nasiri, director of provincial council said besides monitoring and solving problems of locals, they had worked very hard for approval of big projects in the province too.
“For example, mega projects of Kamal Khan dam, construction of airport and extension of drinking water are approved with struggles of the council,” he added.
A member of the council on condition of anonymity said despite efforts made by the council, still there were problem in local government administrations.
“The provincial custom department is charging every container vehicle 30,000 to 40,000 afghanis illegally and the council has failed to stop them,” he said.
Eng. Habibullah, resident of provincial capital also confirmed corruption in local administration and said it was a difficult task to cut root corruption in a short period.
“Continuous efforts of the council will not only help to solve the problem of corruption, but it would also be helpful for approving new projects in the province,” Habibullah said.
Provincial custom department was unable to be contacted, besides several attempts but according to Muhammad Qasim, the deputy governor, he was unaware of charging of those vehicles illegally by the custom.
The council and all local departments were working with full cooperation and coordination, he said.
